Elle Rebelle wins on her debut

18 Jun 2012

Our homebred Lille Ida's 2-year -old filly ELLE REBELLE, sold at Tattersalls October sales, made a promising debut at her first outing at Carlisle.
There was a little bit of money for the daughter of Cockney Rebel, who was backed into 14-1 from 20s for the Book Your Conference At Carlisle Racecourse Maiden Auction Stakes, but jockey Paul Quinn had his work cut out when she was slowly away. Quinn maintained his cool and a position close to the rail, and despite Elle Rebelle showing evident signs of inexperience she was able to withstand the challenge of 15-8 favourite Lady Margaeux by a neck. "That's a very good start," fillies trainer Mark Brisbourne said. "She was showing the right signs at home but we've been patient with her. We're only halfway through June but we've not pushed the buttons too early. "She'd had a racecourse gallop and has been very well behaved. She didn't get the clearest of passages so I'd like to think she's won with a bit in hand. Paul said she'll be more switched on the next time she runs." It was the Shropshire trainer's first juvenile winner of the campaign: "I've only got half a dozen. I've always usually bought three or four but I wasn't in the position to do that this year. We usually make the best of what we've got."
