Impressive winner for Cockney Rebel

22 Aug 2011

Cockney Dancer (Cockney Rebel) finished strongly in the EBF Maiden stakes at Windsor on the 22nd August to get the better of the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Ladyship (Oasis Dream), who had made a promising debut at Newmarket, and the fact that the pair pulled five lengths clear of the third suggests they are useful prospects. This was a second winner on the day for Charlie Hills. Cockney Dancer had reportedly shaped like a nice filly at home, though she is expected to need 7f and it was her extra stamina that saw her home in front, staying on too strongly for the favourite. It will be interesting to see where she goes next, with a race like the Rockfel being a possible long-term target, but first she may take her chance in the big Doncaster sales race early next month. Cockney Dancer is a half-sister to the Listed Dick Poole Stakes-third Roodeye (Inchinor) and Gallagher (Bahamian Bounty), who was second in the Gr.2 Mill Reef Stakes and Gr.2 Richmond Stakes. They are out of the Listed (now Gr.3) Firth of Clyde Stakes-second Roo (Rudimentary), who is a half-sister to the Gr.2 Gimcrack Stakes winner Bannister (Inchinor).
